[ARCHIVED] American Red Cross Offers Two Area Shelters For Residents Still Without Power on Friday, March 10, 2

While power outages continue to affect the Metro Detroit area, the American Red Cross will again provide two shelter locations that will accommodate residents impacted by the recent severe wind storm.  Any individual without power or shelter due to the storm may stop in for temporary relief or overnight lodging. 


Participating temporary shelter locations include: 

  • Dearborn Public Schools McCollough-Unis Middle School, located at 7801 Maple Street, Dearborn, MI  48126
  • Dearborn Public Schools Stout Middle School, located at 18500 Oakwood Boulevard, Dearborn, MI  48124


No advance registration is required.  Individuals in need of relief may report to either of these locations for overnight accommodations starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2017.  Both locations will close at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017.  For additional American Red Cross information, please visit http://www.redcross.org/local/michigan


For residents seeking a temporary warming center during daytime hours, Canton Township has opened a warming center at the Summit on the Park community recreation center, located at 46000 Summit Parkway, Canton, MI 48188. The warming center will remain open through the weekend during regular business hours: Friday, 5:30 a.m. - 10 p.m.; Saturday, 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.; and Sunday, 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. Visitors to the warming center may also take advantage of our warm showers; just remember to bring your own towels and grooming supplies. The Canton Public Library, located at 1200 S. Canton Center Road, Canton, MI, will also be available as a warming center during their normal business hours:  Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Friday – Saturday from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Sunday from Noon - 6:00 p.m. For additional information, please visit www.cantonpl.org or call 734/397-0999.
