[ARCHIVED] Spotlight Players To Bring Rodgers & Hammerstein’s ‘South Pacific’ To Canton Community

Spend an enchanted evening or afternoon enjoying the Spotlight Players’ latest production of the classic musical, ‘South Pacific,’ at The Village Theater at Cherry Hill on September 16-18 and 23-25, 2016.

With a cast of over 40 actors from all around Metro Detroit, Spotlight Players brings alive this grand, emotional story that deals with themes of interracial romance and the brevity of life. Set in an island paradise during World War II, two parallel love stories are threatened by the dangers of prejudice and war. Nellie, a spunky nurse from Arkansas, falls in love with a mature French planter, Emile.

Nellie learns that the mother of his children was an island native and, unable to turn her back on the prejudices with which she was raised, refuses Emile's proposal of marriage. Meanwhile, the strapping Lt. Joe Cable denies himself the fulfillment of a future with an innocent Tonkinese girl with whom he's fallen in love out of the same fears that haunt Nellie. When Emile is recruited to accompany Joe on a dangerous mission that claims Joe's life, Nellie realizes that life is too short not to seize her own chance for happiness, thus confronting and conquering her prejudices.

South Pacific will run on the main stage of The Village Theater at Cherry Hill from September 16-18 and 23-25, 2016, with Friday and Saturday performances at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday performances at 2 p.m.

Tickets range from $16-$18 and can be purchased by calling the box office at 734/394-5300 or visiting www.cantonvillagetheater.org. Tickets are also available for purchase at the box office one hour prior to show time.
