[ARCHIVED] Captains graduate from fire staff & command school

October 28, 2015, Canton, MI – Last week, Canton Fire Department Captains Kevin Henderson & Jamie Strassner successfully completed Fire Staff & Command School at Eastern Michigan University.

The EMU Staff and Command School is a comprehensive 360-hour program that is designed to take the fire officer beyond traditional operational methods and expose them to strategic thinking and creative, innovative problem solving techniques. The curriculum consists of five major topic areas intended to address the changing needs expected in today’s fire service, including leadership, planning and decision making, human resource management, administration and critical situations.

Fire Staff & Command School is mandatory for all Canton command officers and is a component of the ongoing training the department’s firefighters participate in on a regular basis.

Captain Henderson has been with the department for 23 years, and Captain Strassner for 14 years. Both are currently serving as station supervisors, providing leadership and development of firefighter paramedics under the leadership of their assigned Battalion Chiefs.
