[ARCHIVED] Canton Seniors Celebrate Earned Medals From 11th Annual Western Wayne Co. Senior Olympics

Canton’s Senior Olympians, who competed from August 10-14, had excellent participation in the games with 90 competitors vying for a medal.

Other communities competing in the Senior Olympics were Belleville, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Garden City, Inkster, Livonia, Northville/Northville Township, Plymouth/Plymouth Township, Redford Township, Sumpter Township, Van Buren Township, Wayne and Westland. The City of Westland received the most medals from this year’s games with a total of 82 medals. Canton came in second with 78 medals and Van Buren placed third overall with 49. In total, 553 Western Wayne seniors competed and won 488 medals.

The year’s games were kicked off with an opening ceremony at Hines Park on Monday, August 10, and finished with a banquet and medals presentation that was held at Roma Hall in Garden City, MI.

Last year 100 Canton residents brought home a total of 85 gold, silver, and bronze medals during the Tenth Annual Western Wayne County Senior Olympics.

Canton’s seniors are served by the Canton Senior Center, Club 55+, which provides year-round social, recreational and educational activities, and also serves as an informational resource for those 55 and better.
