Canton To Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Life & Legacy At The Village Theater at Cherry Hill
Canton, MI – January 13, 2014 - The Canton community will once again honor the memory and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a special tribute, "CANTON CELEBRATES DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR." on Monday, January 20, 2014 at The Village Theater at Cherry Hill, located at 50400 Cherry Hill Road. The public is invited to attend a pre-event meet and greet with the keynote speaker, Alexander Jefferson, Lt. Col. (Ret) of the Tuskegee Airmen, Detroit Chapter, being held next door to the theater at the newly opened 502 Grill starting at 5:00 p.m.
A punch and cookie reception will begin at The Village Theater at 5:30 p.m., followed by the main program slated to start at 6:00 p.m.This annual event is presented by the Canton Commission for Culture, Arts, and Heritage, members of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Sub-Committee, and Canton Township. This year's reception is sponsored by Darian & Ralynda Moore of Keller Williams Realty of Plymouth, MI. Admission to this special presentation is a $2 donation at the door.
The program will feature actor Stan Jordan delivering the powerful "I Have A Dream" Speech. Musical performances will also be provided by the New Hope Music Academy, under the direction of Isaac Pippen and soloist, Alicia Dent. Canton Police Honor Guard, PCEP Step Team and tap dancer, Kelsey Rose, will round out the program.
This year, area youth shared their thoughts and ideas about the life and legacy of Dr. King by submitting over 100 essays and artwork, which will be on display during this special event. Winners of this year's art and essay contests include:

?High School Winners: Tiffany Askew (essay), Sapphire Jackson (art)
