[ARCHIVED] Canton Non-Profit Groups To Play Key Role in 2015 Liberty Fest

Several community organizations will again participate and give back to the community in this annual celebration, including:

America's Most Wanted Car Club: This Canton-based club has been conducting car shows to benefit local charities for over 20 years and has participated in all of Canton's Liberty Fest celebrations. With over 30 members, this car club exhibits numerous vehicles from antiques to present day automobiles throughout the Metro Detroit area and as far away as Frankenmuth, MI. Stroll along the ponds of Liberty Fest on Saturday, June 20 to enjoy some of the finest automobiles created. Vehicles will range from classic restorations to race cars. Over 225 vehicles are expected to be exhibited. Proceeds from this year's Liberty Fest appearance will benefit Open Door Ministries - an area food bank, and Blum's Landing - a retreat for Veterans located in northern Michigan. For more information about America's Most Wanted Car Club, contact President Bob Hayes at 734/421-8308 or Vice-President Jim Tilley at 734/459-8308.

The Canton Firefighters #2289 Charity Foundation: This dedicated non-profit group was established in 1995 by Canton Firefighters to support Canton community charities, assist in emergency relief efforts and other worthwhile causes that surface in the community. Each year the Canton Firefighters #2289 Charity Foundation hosts a popular Spaghetti Dinner at Liberty Fest, thanks to the generous donations from Rose's Restaurant of Canton. Be sure to stop by and enjoy a scrumptious dinner, while supplies last, on Friday, June 19 from 5 - 9 p.m. Proceeds from this year’s dinner will support Canton community charities, assist in emergency relief efforts and other worthwhile causes that surface in the community. This year’s dinner is sponsored in part by Sysco Detroit, Rose's Restaurant, Mama Mucci's Pasta, Gordon Food Service, and Absoupure. The Bob Skon Trio will also be there performing a good mix of folk-rock and a touch of jazz. The Canton Lions Club: Celebrating 20 years of hosting the Liberty Fest Pancake Breakfast and over 40 year of dedicated service in our community, the Canton Lions Club is a group that comes together and shares a common interest in community service, supporting the Lions motto "We Serve." The clubs exist so that members may pool their skills, talents and resources for the betterment of the community. Since establishing its charter in 1968, club members have raised and distributed over $200,000 in charitable grants to nonprofit service agencies. Don't miss the Canton Lions Club's 20th Annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, June 20 from 7 - 11 a.m. (whiles supplies last) in the Heritage Park North Pavilions. Join in the fun and enjoy a stack of golden pancakes and waffles hot off the griddle along with sausages, juice or coffee all for just a donation. All proceeds will benefit local Lions Club charities. For more information about the Canton Lions Club, visit www.cantonlions.org.

The Rotary Club of Canton: The Rotary Club of Canton was chartered on May 16, 1977 and supports many ongoing projects including the contribution of backpacks to the Plymouth Canton Clothing bank at the start of each school year for underprivileged students. Rotary International is one of the oldest service organizations and has the motto, "Service Above Self". During Liberty Fest, the Rotary Club will be hosting the Adult Beverage Tent, which is sponsored by Liberty Street Brewing Company on: Thursday: 4-10 p.m., Friday: 4-10 p.m.; and Saturday: 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. Come cool off with a cold one, near the Canton LIVE! Stage, where they will be offering a selection of craft beers and hard ciders. Festival-goers must be 21 years or older to enter the Tent.

These certainly aren’t the only non-profit community groups participating in this year’s Liberty Fest. Stroll around the Market Place and discover at least a dozen more who will be on site connecting with the community and promoting their causes. For more information on any of these non-profit groups, visit www.cantonlibertyfest.com or call 734/394-5460.
