2020 ELECTION FAQs:

Q: When I can expect my ballot?

A: If you have already applied, ballots should begin arriving the first week of October.  If you don’t receive a ballot by October 9, call the Clerk’s Office at 734/394-5120.

Q: When are ballots available? 

A: Ballots are available for pickup starting Thursday, September 24. 

Q: Have you sent my absentee ballot? 

A: The bulk mailing was dropped at the USPS on Wednesday, September 23.

Q: How do I check my ballot status? 

A: Visit www.mi.gov/vote.

Q: How do I see a sample ballot? 

A: Visit www.mi.gov/vote.

Q: How do I check if I am registered to vote or update my registration?  

A: Visit www.mi.gov/vote. 

Q: I forgot my secrecy sleeve and I am concerned my vote won’t count! 

A: No need to worry, your vote will count.

Q: I am worried about my ballot signature! Or I forgot to sign it!

A: The Clerk’s Office will contact you if the signature is missing or there is a concern.

Q: When do ballots need to be back? 

A: ASAP, but no later than 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3.

KEY DATE FOR THE 2020 ELECTION:

September 21: Absentee voter ballot mailing begins

October 3: Canton Clerk’s Office open for election business only, 10am - 2pm.

October 10: Canton Clerk’s Office open for election business only, 10am - 2pm.

October 17: Canton Clerk’s Office open for election business only, 10am - 2pm.

October 19: Last day to register to vote other than in person at the Clerk’s Office

October 20: In person voter registration with local Clerk with proof of residency

October 24: Canton Clerk’s Office open for election business only, 10am - 2pm.

October 30: Last day Clerk’s office may mail an AV ballot

October 31: Canton Clerk’s Office open for election business only, 8:30am - 4:30pm.

November 2: Last day to obtain an AV ballot in the Clerk’s office. Deadline is 4pm.

November 3: Election Day registrants may register, obtain and vote an AV ballot at the Clerk’s office or vote in person at precinct until 8pm.

ATTENTION:  If you’re voting absentee, please make sure your ballot is returned on or before November 3 at 8pm.  Ballots can be mailed, hand delivered to the Clerk’s Office or dropped in one of the two drop-box locations outside of Canton’s Administration Building. For your convenience, a drive-up drop-box is located behind the building in the parking lot.
