January 19, 2019, Canton, MI – Effective Saturday, January 19 at 2:30 p.m. – Sunday, January 20, 2019, at 11 p.m., a Snow Emergency is hereby declared for the Charter Township of Canton by Public Safety Director Joshua C. Meier.
In accordance with Public Act 104 of the Acts of 1981, during a declared Snow Emergency parking of motorized vehicles on any street is prohibited to allow for proper plowing and salting of roadways. This order also provides for ease of access for emergency vehicles responding to calls for service, as well as minimizes the potential for motor vehicle accidents throughout the Township due to snow and adverse conditions.
Voluntary compliance is requested during this declared Emergency—failure to do so could result in the ticketing and/or towing of non-compliant vehicles.

In addition to the temporary parking restrictions, the Public Safety Department reminds residents of the following Charter Township of Canton Ordinances regarding snow removal:
- Property owners/occupants shall not permit ice or an accumulation of snow to remain on any sidewalk adjacent to their property for a period longer than 72 hours after ice or snow has formed or fallen.
- All fire hydrants in the Township are required to have three feet of unobstructed access around them, including snow that has accumulated or been piled up.
“Compliance with this emergency order allows safe passage for emergency responders and ready access to fire hydrants in the event of a fire or emergency,” says Deputy Director Chad Baugh.
