[ARCHIVED] Canton’s Village Theater To Exhibit Works By Artist Raymond Gross Through February 26, 2018

The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is pleased to exhibit the collected works of artist Raymond Gross in the Gallery@VT, now through February 26, 2018. An artist reception will be held on February 8, 2018, from 7-9 p.m., which is free and open to the public.

This special exhibit, entitled “Brushes, Pens & Pencils,” features numerous works that represent Gross’ visualization of emotions drawn from his fifty-year journey as an artist.  For Gross, art effectively expresses feelings and can also be a refuge for healing raw emotions, as he explores landscapes and the human form, rediscovering the beauty in the world.  Whether doing landscapes or figurative work, the same emotions and creative challenges exist for this talented artist, who finds the joy of putting marks on a surface is the ultimate reward.

“The distinction between painting and drawing is frequently blurred in my work and I think of it mostly as drawing,” stated Gross.  “Generally, I am not as concerned with photographic realism as I am about creating an emotional statement.  In recent years my work has become smaller in scale, often sketchbook size and more intimate in approach.  The viewer is looking more closely at the marks of my improvisation.  As I have reached my 70th year, my work has become once again more experimental, playful, and joyful.”

Raymond Gross, Jr. received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan, as well as a Master of Arts in Fine Arts from Eastern Michigan University.  Originally from Detroit, MI, Gross has taught within the Van Buren Public Schools as an Elementary Art Teacher, as well as a Middle School Assistant Principal. Gross currently resides in Canton, MI.

This current art exhibit at The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is free and open to the public: Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; during public performances at the theater; and by appointment by calling 734/394-5300. The Gallery is closed on holidays.
