[ARCHIVED] Canton Hosts Successful 36th Annual Tree Lighting

Around 250 area families kicked off the holiday season by visiting with Santa Claus, taking part in family-friendly crafts and activities and joining Canton Township Supervisor Phil LaJoy in lighting Canton’s Christmas tree.

“We had a wonderful evening of celebration,” Recreation Specialist Laura Mortier said. “We loved sharing in our community’s traditions and creating new ones, too!”

The festivities began with carols from the BeckRidge Chorale and Cherry Hill Singers, setting the stage for Supervisor LaJoy to light Canton’s Christmas Tree with the help of Santa Claus and Bartlett the Beaver. After a countdown, fireworks and confetti, Supervisor LaJoy lit the multicolored lights of the tree in front of the Summit on the Park to the cheers of the attending crowd.

After the lighting of the tree, families took part in a variety of Christmas crafts and activities inside the Summit on the Park, visited with Santa Claus, took pictures with Anna, Elsa and Olaf characters from the Disney movie Frozen and enjoyed musical and dance performances, as well as food and coffee from Qais Food Truck and Biggby Coffee. Attendees also had the opportunity to browse through a wide selection of local gifts and treats at the Marketplace presented by the Canton Farmer’s Market.

Sponsors helping to make the Tree Lighting possible included: Atchinson Ford; Community Financial; The Goddard School; and Jack Demmer Ford.
